Megan, my best friend came for a ministry visit this week here in Panajachel. This week we are doing a retreat for the traditional mayan women where we are ministering to over 60 women. Im so happy to work with my closest friend and sister this week doing what we love!
One of the things I love about our friendship is that it isnt really about us. God is the center of every laugh, inside jokes and serious conversation. He is the reason why we love each other, He is the reason why we trust each other. He is the reason that we have friendship. Whenever I’m around Meg’s my spirit is lifted, my love for Christ becomes more zealous and fervent. Its almost like she exudes literal huger for Him. Like, if Jesus was a banana, I would want to eat Him…. Really bad! (And I don’t even like bananas!) She is also a vessel that God has used in my life to teach me about trust, dedication, faithfulness, intimacy, honor, faith, to truly believe, and what its like to BE IN LOVE with Him. This girl is a lover! She loves long and she loves hard. She lets nothing come between her and her lover (Christ). Im so grateful for the the blessing of having her in my life. Even this week God has used her to poor into in my life. To teach me more about a God who is for me. A God who wants into the mundane parts of my crazy life.
Me: I just don’t know what else to do… Fundraising is hard, and I know it wasn’t meant to be easy but I didn’t expect it to be so difficult. I know God is a God who can and HAS provided, but why is it still so difficult, after so many years of doing this.
Megan: Maybe its because you have the expectation that your fundraising has to look the same every time. Meaning, if you wrote an amazing blog last week and you got a great response doesn’t mean this week your blog is going to get the same response. You have got to stop living with the expectation that God isn’t going to use even the mundane things like your fundraising to have more of a relationship with you. When he is pursuing you, he is going to do it in EVERY way.
This really changed my mindset. God wants intimacy with me. He wants time with me. He wants to talk to me, he wants to invade my heart and my spirit. He cares about me in the simple ways. Megan didn’t have to spell it out for me, God just wanted to DTR (define the relationship) with me. He chose fundraising difficulties to show me how much he really genially loves me. How badly he wants to be my best friend. He used Megan (someone who is operating in the spirit at all times) to correct my fleshly thinking with love and grace (but she dont play either) All He wants is to fill me up with himself. Realistically, God provided for me even before time began. Its not a matter of when he is going to provide for me it’s a matter of a creator in heavy pursuit of his lover, of his best friend, of his princess, of his faithful servant…of me.
A really amazing man of God posted this on Facebook just this morning,
“A good word from Jesus the other day: I don’t need you as much as you need me,but I want you more than you want me.”
a sovereign God, in control of the universe. In need of NOTHING. Yet…in crazy pursuit YOUR heart!”
He really wants into the mundane parts of life. He want’s a voice He wants to speak. He has ideas, opinions, instructions, and the best advice. HE CARES! He really does. The sooner we begin to understand the heart the father has for us, something in us changes the way we think and the way we pray. We become more fervent, more specific, more daring, more expectant. Just as it should be.
My challenge to you this week is to ask God to show you the places in your life he wants into. Then, INVITE HIM IN! share your time with Him even in the mundane parts. Washing dishes, changing the baby, getting up that extra hour, fundraising, ministry, boyfriends, feedback, where you choose you go, how you choose to get there. It’s the little things that he is asking into, only be with you. Ultimately he is going to lead you straight to himself. Because he loves you, and because you need Him.
Food for thought:
(Here in Guatemala there is a a commonality that happens here when entering someones home. It is always said by the person wanting to enter “permission to pass”. And a common responce is “pass through” with a welcoming heart full of gratitude. What if God was at your door asking your permission to pass? You see, some times we dont think that the small things matter enough… But its just not true because if they didn’t matter God wouldnt be asking your permissin to come in. You have the choice to respond. God is not the type who enters with out your permission. He is a gentelman and a good Father. But, he IS knocking hoping to have conpanionship with you. will you let him enter?)
