“In essence there is only one thing that God asks of us- that we be men and women of prayer, people who live close to God, people for whom God is everything and for whom God is enough.” ~Brennan Manning, The Ragamuffin Gospel
Brennan Manning’s words above have become my prayer. That is the kind of person that I want to be. I want to be a woman of prayer. A woman who lives in intimacy and closeness with my God. A woman for whom God is everything and for whom God is enough.
On Tuesday, May 20th, my World Race team and I entered into a 40-day fasting period. We are spending the last 40 days before our trip sitting before the Lord, seeking Him, seeing more of who He is and who we are in Him. I believe that the Lord is going to move in amazing ways in the next 40 days as we humble ourselves before Him.
I covet your prayers. I ask that you join my team and me in prayer these next 40 days. These are the ways that you can pray for us.
Pray for Me
1. Pray that I will stick with this commitment to the Lord.
2. Pray that I will become of woman of prayer.
3. Pray that as I change my eating habits, that my spiritual “appetite” will increase. That I will become a woman who loves the Lord wholeheartedly and that my desire for Him and for His Word will increase.
Pray for the July Racers
1. Pray that we will hear from the Lord.
2. Pray that the Lord will begin to break our hearts for the nations.
3. Pray that we will fall more in love with Jesus over the next 40 days.
Pray for the Nations
1. Pray for the people of China and Myanmar that are suffering the devastating affects of natural disasters.
2. Pray that the Lord will begin revealing Himself to people across the nations, drawing them to Himself.
3. Pray for open hearts to the gospel of grace.
*Editor’s note: I have received several emails in the last couple of days asking for more information about the fast and how they can pray specifically for our fasting. I should have included this information in my blog. We are fasting as a team for 40 days, but it was open for us to individually seek the Lord about how we were going to fast. I am fasting Monday-Friday from sun up until sun down. This is a big challenge for me in humbling myself before the Lord. I have fasted before, but never for more than a couple of days. Please pray that I will keep this commitment before the Lord and that I will really be spending my time seeking Him. Some of you may wonder why I chose to fast only Monday-Friday. I have been struggling with the balance between diving completely in to World Race preparation and not “leaving” Atlanta before I am actually gone. So, not fasting on the weekends is part of that balance for me. This way I can still have table fellowship here, connect with people (which often happens at meals), and make sure I am saying goodbye well. Please pray for me and my team as we seek the Lord individually and corporately.
