Team Sour Patch Kids!
“Sour then Sweet”

I had wanted to give you a taste of training camp before introducing my team but the powers that be posted our teams before I could finish compiling my thoughts on training camp so I figured I would introduce you to my team.

We are the Sour Patch Kids!  So here is how it went down.  We were out with our newly assembled teams for some team bonding and we started talking about what our team name should be.  We started out strong with the idea of making it an adjective to describe our team and what we stood for but then upon discovering all the other random and crazy names past teams have had our ideas spiraled out from there and down the rabbit trails we went until it was 4 hours later and we were walking back to session from our time in town and we realized we didn’t yet have a name.  Shea happened to be swinging a bag of Sour Patch Kids that she had bought while we were in town and Andy was like why not the Sour Patch Kids.  In light of the other suggestions and the fact that we were basically out of time we all agreed to it.  While I would love to tell you that there was more to our name than that we did come up with a great rational post name choice.  The sour patch slogan is Sour then Sweet.  So while we are born into this world which is made sour by sinful flesh God refines us and makes us sweet.  Either that or, as we enter into this sour world we will turn it sweet with love.  Cheesy I know and if you just gaged a bit in your mouth I wont judge you but hey it’s something, and it is my team and I love them to bits.  Also, it grows on you over time and you learn to love the randomness of it…or at least that is how it was for me.

So without further ado I would like you to meet my amazing team who I will be doing life with for at least the next 4 months…

Marius

Our team’s faithful leader.  Given the middle name of Ceaser and a remarkable resemblance to everyone’s favourite Christian football player Tim Tebow (honestly this picture does not do the resemblance justice but I had limited pictures to work with), he was born to be a leader.  He is strong yet vulnerable, steady in the face of chaos, and one of the most genuine men you will ever meet!  http://mariusherlea.theworldrace.org/

Zack

Our team’s logistics guy and our squad’s safety guy, also known as Captain Kirk (Kirk is his last name).  Zack is a big loveable teddy bear who hates country music with a passion despite being from Tennessee.  He led our men to victory on the men hike by setting an unforgiving relentless pace that saw them stampede past many other teams.  It will be his job to help coordinate getting our team in and out of countries as well as to keep us up-to-date on any special safety concerns we face in our countries (not that we expect any mom).

Andy

I think Andy is going to be the little brother I never had.  He is spontaneous, adventurous, and full of ways to make you laugh. He thinks outside the box and challenges people to see things differently.  He is an amazingly humble man who unapologetically loves God and isn’t afraid to tell that to everyone he meets.

Shea

Shea is team’s finance person.  So if I happen to go hungry and starve it’s on her…KIDDING!  Seriously though this girl is taking on a big job but at least she knows how to release some stress; Shea is one of the funniest, most random people I have ever met.  If you think Seinfeld was amazing at being a show about nothing, this girl could give Jerry Seinfeld a run for his money in the ‘lets talk for hours about nothing’ category.  And clearly she is gifted with some amazingly talented eyeballs!

Kristen

…and the award for Miss Congeniality goes to….Kristen Ozmon!  Always giving, never taking; this girl is seriously the kindest person you have ever met!  She always puts other’s first and asks what she can do for them.  Beautiful both inside and out and I blessed to be on a team with her and look forward to learning how to be more selfless through her amazing example.

Well, there you have it folks; my team!  We are a full mix of personalities but I think that is what is awesome about our team.  And while I am sure we will rub up against each other at times I think this is an amazing team to learn from and grow with.

I will leave you with two last pictures of our team.  First during our laser tag team bonding experience and then one of us during squad wars.
