All the way
in the middle of Ubon Ratchithani, Thailand, the Lord hears the prayers of
Victoria and I.
And the
unbelievable happens.
This is testimony of
how faithful Jesus is in the little things…
The crickets
on my iPhone start chirping telling us it’s time to get up. 8 am, the usual
time to be up for ministry. However, it’s our off day. Not being morning people
we roll over, “Wait it’s our Internet morning!” Blankets come off; the heat is
rising in the room. Good morning facebook.
Most of our
teammates and squadmates have been up for at least an hour planning the day
trip to town. Victoria and I are still rolling out of bed and decide to catch
up with them later. So later…
We head to the mall.
Around one
we cross the street with the intentions of catching public transportation. This
is all the info we were given.
We cross the
street as to be on the side of cars and look around. Where is the bus stop? A
man walking by begins telling us who-knows-what in Thai while waving his arms
up ahead. We decide to follow him… from a distance. Just as he begins to stop
at a food stand a Toyota truck pulls up and a lady gets our attention. “I speak English, Do you need help?” “Yes,
we are trying to catch a public transport bus to the City Mall?”
Before we
know it, we are crammed in the backseat of the truck with her 17-year-old
daughter, and her husband is driving. God provided the way.
We enjoy
1-on-1 time, eat lunch, buy things, while also being on the look out for our
fellow World Racers. We even go so far as to search the waterpark (didn’t take
long), the bowling alley, and a nearby mall/movie theater. With no luck, we
decide to head home on our own again. God will provide for us again, we
are certain.
We exit the mall.
Hopping on a
city bus that’s going the correct way, we pass the first mall and soon reach
the intersection where we should turn right. The truck goes left. “Push the buzzer!!!” We hop off and pay
10 baht. Now what? I guess we walk… but how far? Was there another turn after
this?
We keep
walking. “We are so lost.”
We stop by a
7/11. They tell us “no taxis here” in
the best English they know how. Great. I guess we’ll keep walking.
In unison we
begin praying: “Dear Jesus” (jinx), we
only know like 3 people in Thailand, please have one of them drive by and pick
us up. We ask this aloud for like the 10th time.
Its 4:30
p.m. We have about 2 hours before nightfall. “We are gonna be in SOOO much trouble…”
But we both
know in the back of our minds that God is going to be faithful.
Not a minute
later, a truck pulls up ahead. Out steps the guy who lives at our house. Unbelievable.
We raise our arms to the sky and yell, “Jesuuus!
You are SO good!”
He just
happened to come from fixing his truck and was driving home. (Divine
intervention anyone?).
God is
faithful. High-Five!
