I like to sacrifice sleep…
I’ll stay up late to make sure we play Clue one last time
(as long as I win).
I’ll even GET up to send off “N” squaders at 5:30AM who have
become like best friends to me.
I may even pull all-nighters at the airport to watch team
backpacks.
On the World Race, sleep is far and in between, especially
around transitions. Sometimes, we even purposefully lose sleep to pray in the
weeist hours, or “sleep” in the park with the homeless.
But sometimes we frustratingly lose sleep due to chanting of
very obedient and devout Pilipino Catholics who carry their mourning into the
night.
Meh, What is sleep?
It something we don’t mind losing if its for “our advantage”
but something we could cause quarreling over if woken too abruptly, or bothered
as we begin to enter the world of unconscious. Sleep is a very selfish part of
human nature. I think I have something to learn from these Catholics who are
celebrating Holy week. They are giving up sleep to someone greater than
themselves.
We should live the same. We should give Jesus our time. It
will most definitely look different than how they give Jesus time, however;
simply encouraging one another throughout the day or “waking up” to pray could
be a start. We could learn to be selfless in this difficult area of “our” lives.
I don’t mean to NEVER SLEEP, but maybe we should start praying for visions in
our dreams, for supernatural rest, for healing. Maybe we should do more things
for God, and less for ourselves. Yes, that is what Jesus calls us to do.
God, change the desires of our hearts to look like your
desires. DO with our rest or non-rest, as you will. As long as we do, Let’s do
it for you.
