preaching in Ogosoi, a long bumpy ride from Ngora:

on “abiding in God’s love”, me on prayer. The two topics couldn’t have gone
better together. Prayer is the perfect union with God, where we can abide,
dwell, and meditate. And as for the Lord’s Prayer which I picked apart and
taught on, it is all about asking for his
will to be done and not ours. The simplicity of it all is sweet.
Joel.

I met John Joel when he peeked his head in the
house where we had our lunch. I soon claimed him and propped him on my lap whenever
possible. Though he barely showed emotion and never spoke a word, I felt
drawn to him. Maybe it was his eyes. His belly protruded over his pants not
from overeating but most likely from malnourishment. He also had a possible
hernia where his “outie” belly button should have been. I wonder who his
parents are and if any of the kids at church were his brothers or sisters?

Soon after taking our lunch, Kerry and I headed
outside for fellowship. Here we found a very anxious crowd that
was interested in the white visitors. As the starring turned to pressure to do
something, Kerry began the story of Jonah.
Using the crowd as the rain sounds and John
Joel as a prop we told it together. Kerry narrated, Rev. Samwel translated
and I used John’s hands to copy every hand motion Kerry made. At one point
Kerry even grabbed John and pretended to throw him into the crowd when Jonah
was tossed from the boat.
Uganda. It was totally worth the drive.
