Did you know that there really was a saint named Valentine? This is
one of several versions of Valentine’s life story that have been
floating around.
He lived in Italy during the Roman
empire, a time when being a Christian meant being heavily persecuted.
Many Christians were imprisoned and executed. Valentine would visit and
care for the Christians in prison, which was illegal under the reign of
Emperor Claudius II. So Valentine himself landed in prison, but that
didn’t stop him from ministering — he healed the jailer’s daughter from
blindness, which converted the jailer.
He wrote a letter to the jailer’s
daughter and signed it, “From your Valentine.” Soon afterwards,
Valentine met the same fate as the Christians he used to visit and was
martyred (by beheading) for his faith, then laid to rest on February
14th.
With words of faith, hope and love,
you can encourage a victim of human trafficking. Writing her a letter
could be your first step in acting against this injustice. World Race
participants on the field who’ve had the opportunity to befriend victims
and survivors of trafficking will deliver your letters.
Let’s join the fight against human
trafficking. We invite you to start with your words. Your letter could
help bridge the gap between bondage and freedom. In a tangible way,
your letter will spread the hope and love of Christ, the Savior and
Rescuer of the world.
The World Race is introducing a new route, our second “human trafficking” devoted trip:
