NightLight Atlanta is a faith-based, grassroots movement that addresses the complex issues of commercial sexual exploitation through prevention,
intervention, restoration, and education. NightLight Atlanta seeks to
mobilize the Body of Christ to loose the chains of injustice, while
partnering with local law enforcement and service providers to set the
captives free.
(NightLight International, 2011).

Friday night I joined their outreach team in the bars, streets, and hotels in major red light areas of Atlanta.

My next 3 blogs will be an account of that experience.

PART 1: Preparing to go out 7pm-10pm

The ministry of NightLight Atlanta operates out of Grace Midtown, a church located on State Street. At first glance, the church appears historic, placed between houses, not out of the ordinary.
However, upon entering, a peace enters the mind and utter curiosity overwhelms the senses. A coffee shop and many other rooms line the hallway, all filled with couches, world maps, and dry erase boards. Vision happens here.

Tiffany Berkowitz compares the building to a log cabin one might find in a forest, hidden and tucked away, like a secret retreat.

It was in one of the many rooms that we spent time praying and worshiping before going out.

While listening to the Lord, we hear him speak.

Bring heaven to earth.
Bring my kingdom HERE.
Give them a glimpse, a taste test of what is to come.
Be a representation, an ambassador of MY kingdom.
It is where you came from, and where you will return.
Pray that they can catch a glimpse of how much I LOVE THEM.

Go in LOVE tonight.

We are covered in peace like honey.
They don’t/We don’t know peace aside from YOU.
Its a peace so counterculture, so thick and sweet on us– That they can see it.
When we walk in peace, that is what separates us from “the world.”

So we go, with feet of peace and hearts of love.
