Only one week left here in Diriamba. I can’t believe it’s gone so fast… I feel like we just got here. God has been leading us to a few projects here including the ministry in dump (getting to know the people who survive off of the trash there), going into the barrios to meet with church-goers and play futbal with the kids, and manual labor at La Quinta Esperanza.
La Quinta is placed strategically in the barrio. It’s at least a few acres of land filled with mango, banana, papaya, guava, and grenadine trees/ vines. It truly is an oasis in a desert. The rest of the barrio is filled with barbed wire, tin houses, and concrete. The only structures at La Quinta are the groundskeepers house (Juanita and Eriberto), the doctor’s clinic (they are still in need of a doctor to get it up and running again), a small nursery building, an orphanage building (work is being completed on that as I write), and a stone floor with a tin roof which serves as the church building.
The orphanage is the only structure that is being paid for by supporters. The rest of the land is but a vision right now. There are so many possibilities for this land… a new church building, more orphan houses, a prayer garden, a fully functioning fruit and vegetable garden (to give food away), and many other improvements to be made on the land such as play areas, sunday school class areas, etc.
We’ve asked Lynn and Glenn how we might be able to help (as in some smaller projects), and so while we’re here we’re hoping to get the fruit and veggie garden planted, the clinic painted, and a new patio installed at the groundskeepers house (this house needs major work done to it… roots are coming through the tile floor, and the roof leaks).
Anyhow, this is the part where you come in. Start praying. Ask God if He wants you to become a part of this minisrty. Maybe He’ll tell you to get yourself down here to do manual labor. Maybe He’ll tell you to write a check. Maybe He’ll tell you that you’re the next orphanage parent (scary thought, huh?). Either way, the people of Diriamba will have a calm, soothing place to go to when they need to escape their barbed wire prisons. They could sit by a fountain under a mango tree to pray. The kids could come play in a sand box or swing on swings.
It’s so exciting to watch this vision unfold! If God is calling you to help, send and email to Glenn and Lynn Schweitzer at [email protected]
But above all else ask God where He wants you to be! It doesn’t matter whether it’s with Glenn and Lynn or somewhere else, but just be asking!
