That’s just where we are. Yeah, we’ve been given village names, and nearby town names, but really, we’re in the boonies. And when our contact here in wherever we are drives, it feels even farther from civilization. However, when his nephew drives, we get there a lot quicker.
Scott, Steph, and I arrived in Chiang Mai after an arduous overnight ride from Bangkok. We were expecting the luxury service that team LO, Tana, and Rusty experienced the week before, but we got on the economy class bus. The seats were so small I was halfway in the aisle so that Scott could fit in the window seat. Not to mention, I could see the passenger’s forehead in the seat in front of me when he reclined his chair. Also, there was no bathroom on this bus and we only had one pitstop. My eyeballs floated for most of this trip. But, I remind myself that I am not entitled to luxury, or comfort, for that matter. We were to have harder experiences than this when we started ministry.
Yesterday (Monday) and today we’ved been visiting schools, and been given the chance to preach and do skits, and sing to almost 1500 kids (ages 8-18). But we’ve faced so much opposition, not from the schools, but spiritual opposition. Yesterday, the translator didn’t want to translate what we were preaching, and today, we encountered the same sort of thing. Today, we faced even more struggle as we arrived to an auditorium packed with kids playing soccer. They weren’t even prepared for our arrival! When we started playing games on both days, the kids were too timid to join in. They actually ran away from us. Not cool.
But the kids who listened, the kids who wanted Jesus were out there. We know that at least one prayed the prayer and stepped into the Kingdom. It was all worth it for the one. And we aren’t discouraged. It just means FIGHT HARDER!
