The Top Eleven Things I Learned in Bulgaria

  1. Bulgarians love to eat and drink weird things. Examples include: meat spread toast, sausages skewered to look like Price is a Right dollar signs, yogurt water with salt and wheat juice.
  2. Worshipping God doesn't require you to speak the language. You can simply just be still and connect with the Spirit and rejoice with those around you.
  3. Working hard goes a long way in gaining respect. Be the first person to take the worst job and do it with a smile. Others will notice and even if they don't, that's okay too. Hard work is good for your character.
  4. Only you can control your attitude. Allowing others to affect your outlook in a negative fashion and to bring you down is stupid. You are in control of your happiness and your peace should rest in God. Take heart in who He and who He created you to be.
  5. "You can learn a lot from those who know more than you." This was said by Candace Bruce (Team Out of Ashes) in regards to how much we've learned from our ministry contact this month. But this applies to every single person you meet. No matter who it is, there will be something you can learn from them. Take the opportunity to find out what it is.
  6. Smiling is a great way to make friends! Flash your pearly-whites every chance you get and people will be more attracted to you and curious to why you are happy. It is a great way to share your faith.
  7. Fields of dying sunflowers are very depressing looking.
  8.  The more time you spend with God, the more time you will want to spend with God. It is like an addiction!
  9. God puts people in your life who you are not going to like. They are still worth fighting for. When you fight for them, walls will break down. And you never know, once those walls are down, they may become one of your best friends.
  10. Your contact isn't just a person you work for. They are someone who is investing in you just as much as you are investing in them
  11. Take the initiative to go above and beyond what your contact asks for. You have hours of free time? Go outside and play with children. Look for other projects to do! It is much more rewarding.
