We’ve all been asked the question: What would you like to do if money was no object? I have struggled with this question a lot. As a soon-to-be college graduate studying business, it becomes the norm to find a well-paying job after graduation. As I hear of my peers receiving these well paying entry level positions with extremely promising futures, I often feel conflicted because I know I have the potential to have one of those comfortable jobs as well. On the one hand, my post graduation plans are awesome and unique. (There is no denying that!) But on the other hand, I am graduating with a substantial chunk of student loans.

So what should I do?

The answer is clear: I should not let money control my life. I don’t care if that means living from day to day financially. Imagine if I set aside my passion for loving the unloved of the world in order to take an entry level marketing or event management position. I would be going to work every morning thinking about the adventures I should be having on the World Race, the places I should be visiting, and most importantly, the people I should be loving. I would rather live the next year of my life starting to make my impact on the world and trust for God to provide for me then taking a full time position in order to begin to pay off my student loans.

I don’t want to look back on my life in ten, twenty, or even fifty years and feel like I missed out. I want to travel the world, making a big impact as I go. It is my life, and I cannot let society dictate what my path is. People get so caught up in the idea of following the path of primary, secondary, and post-secondary schooling in order to work for the next 30 to 40 years in an office. And that’s great for those who want that, but I don’t. I want to do something that when I wake up in the morning, I will be enthusiastic to start the day. This is overlooked by so many people who are trying to achieve the “American Dream”.

But what about your dream? What would make you passionate about waking up in the morning? I dare you to go out and follow that dream. Take a risk. Life is short so do not waste one more second of it!
