Here’s the story: “When the disciples saw him walking on the seas, they were terrified, and said, “it is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out…”

It seemed to me that Jesus was calling me out onto the water when he called me to the World Race. Excitement, adrenaline, and faith eclipsed everything else.

I had fixed my eyes on Jesus and was walking confidently towards him. Then in a small moment I looked down.  Fear took over and began to wash over me.

The lies told me: “You will never be able to handle the World Race… You’re not good enough for this… You’ve sinned too much… You don’t really follow Christ closely enough for this. You don’t actually think you could find the support to finance this… Stop begging people for money, grow up and finance your own life.

 These are ugly, ugly lies.

Good news though, Peter’s story didn’t end there:

…he [Peter] cried out, “Lord, save me,” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying “Truly you are the Son of God.” Matthew 14:27-33

I don’t want my story to end with the “little faith” either. Jesus, who knows from experience the temptation to wander, has assured me to hold onto the original confidence I had in him and about his call.

The original confidence is that the call of Jesus is to step outside of the boat. It is that Jesus has never failed.

*To reach my first financial goal, I need to have $3,500 raised by September 24th. Will you  prayerfully take a step out of the boat and support me financially?

All you need to do is click the link that says Support Me! And then follow the instructions.
