Summers in north Florida are beautiful… in a hot and sticky, mosquito-filled, not-so-beautiful kind of way. There's a saying that southern girls don't sweat, we glisten… but where I live, you just straight up sweat. But what most people don't know about a north Florida summer is that every day between 1-3pm, the hot sun takes a break, and a massive thunderstorm takes his place. Like… black skies, lightning, the whole shabang. Then the sun reappears, causing an oven-like effect. Beautiful indeed.
Luckily, we are smack-dab in the middle of a gorgeous Spring. Flowers are a'bloomin; birds are a'chirpin. But the storms of summer have already made an appearance.
The past few days I've been in constant search of shelter from the storms in my life. Let's just say that not everyone in my life is… THRILLED… about my decision to go on the World Race. In fact, I've been experiencing some of the most intense opposition of my life. As tech-savvy as I am, I had gotten to a place where I would cringe if I saw a new email pop up in my inbox, in fear of what it might contain. Thankfully, or not so thankfully, groupon invades my inbox more than anyone else.
My BFF, who, if you recall, is better than your BFF, sent me a voice clip of her singing a song that her dad wrote. Upon listening, the storm clouds instantly parted to make way for the sun. So I wanted to share these lyrics with you. Perhaps this will be just the gift of hope and light that you need right now.
If I asked you, Lord, to take this pain away
To perfect your love in me some other way
Could I stand before your thrown
Knowing I refused to own
A portion of your glory kept for me
If I tell you this is more than I can bear
Tell me, Lord, your suffering is mine to share
Tell me, Jesus, to hold on
In my weakness you are strong
The path you walked will lead to victory
I have overcome this world
You must be of good cheer
I have prayed no one can take you from my hand
When your tribulation comes,
You must know that I am near
I will win this fight, if you will only stand.
I can't thank all of you enough for showering me with prayer. It's made a world of difference.
