Kids International Ministries is not only has a children’s home but they also provide avenues for missionaries to serve in all kinds of ways in the surrounding communities. One of the ways to serve is by helping with the feeding program they already have established. A team of people go out twice a day, 6 days a week to feed the same 12 communities. Each day is 2 different communities. Every community is different. All are poverty stricken and have very limited ways of being able to feed their children. A couple of the World Race teams were able to serve in this ministry the entire month. I was able to help with this ministry a day someone was out sick. It was eye opening and broke my heart and it was something I will never forget. Here is my experience with the feeding program:
The feeding team got everything loaded up and we headed towards a community roughly 10 minutes away. We arrived and got out the car, and children immediately ran over to us yelling ” food”, “feed, feed, feed” and “play”. It was overwhelming the amount of children wandering around without clothes on. It was overwhelming the amount of children who wanted to be loved. It was overwhelming the amount of children who needed food and medical care.
Two to three people set up the bin of rice and chicken/veggie mix. Myself and
Amy Book played with the children and tried to tell them to get their bowls. You have to say it over and over….”PLEASE GET YOUR BOWL, PLEASE GET YOUR BOWL, PLEASE GET YOUR BOWL” and you try to tell their parents to get their children a bowl. Some follow and some never get their bowl. It’s painful how much you want these children to run and get a bowl so that they can eat for the day.
Here are some of the faces of the children who benefit from the feeding program. They melt your heart and break it all at the same time!!!
After the children are fed… it’s load up and get out. The children follow you back to the car. The hold your hand…they swing your arms and look up at you so desperately. Some tried to climb up the back of the car. I have no clue what life is like for these people. My heart breaks and I know God’s heart breaks as well. People are desperate for food. They are desperate for love. They are desperate to be known. They are desperate for God!
God is using His people to serve one another through this feeding program. If you are interested in donating to Kids International Ministries…do so, don’t hold back!!
