Over the past few months, there are several comments that I have heard on quite a frequent basis:

“I bet you can’t wait for your trip!”  “You’re going to learn so much!”  “God is going to show you amazing things!”  “This trip will bring you closer to God!”  “This will be an incredible journey!”

And while there is so much truth in these statements, there is something that I have come to learn over these past few weeks:  my journey doesn’t start when I leave for the Race.  My journey started the moment I signed up.

I’m not going to lie, one of the aspects of this trip that I have been most excited about was the chance to deepen my relationship with Christ.  I couldn’t wait to experience the life changing lessons that He is going to teach me while I’m on this trip.  But something that God has shown me over these past few weeks is that He is already using everyday situations to bring me closer to Him.  With fundraising alone, God has shown me the importance of praying for provision and trusting Him to be faithful (even if I’m not always thrilled with His timing).  He’s also blessed me by allowing me to witness the beauty of generosity as I have seen numerous people support me through finances, encouragement and prayer.

I was wrong when I thought that God would wait until the trip before He started to mold me into the person He is calling me to be.  As I prepare for this trip, He is already teaching me to trust Him with everything.  With my needs.  With my burdens.  With my struggles.  With my pain.  I can’t wait to see what else He teaches me over these next 3 months as I prepare to leave.  And I definitely can’t wait to see what He teaches me in the 11 months that I am on the mission field.
