After a few hours, going through twist and turns, down the hot dusty road, we arrived at the bus station to meet Gracie. Gracie is the ministry contact who takes care of girls who were sexually exploited, and fights for justice for those who are in need of it. As we got into her truck and headed down the road, she decided to stop at a house where she delivered a few groceries to a family. This sweet family takes care of a child, a daughter who has cerebral palsy, and a grandmother who is 86 years old. I have already seen so much in the last eight months, and now I have seen this. I am sure I have probably passed by places and women who are involved in the sex trade and did not realize it. On top of that, I got to meet the children who were victims and their babies too. We pulled into her driveway and were met by her two vicious, barking dogs. Then we ate lunch and soon the pastor arrived for church. After, Gracie invited us into her living room for coffee and tea as she gave us an orientation of her ministry. She told us at any time of the day, whether it is 2am or 9pm, police could come knocking on her door with a girl that has been hurt in some form or fashion. Um…a few minutes later, a police pulled up with a new girl to stay that night. She told us so many stories from children being raped by their mom’s boyfriend starting at the age of 9 years to 11 years, girls being lured by men and end up being sex traffic slaves, to taking care of a little boy who was born with a tumor that no one wanted to care for (doctors here successfully removed the huge tumor).
I have been told so many stories and now I have sweet stories to tell you.
