Another part of what I’ve learned on the Race:
This may be one of the most
difficult blogs I’ve written so far.
How to explain something so vast, but so personal? I’m not exactly sure, so I’ll just
start and we’ll see where it gets us.
Throughout my Christian life I’ve heard a lot about Father God and Jesus
but not so much about the Holy Spirit.
That part of God just wasn’t something that was discussed very much, I
mean I knew that He existed, that He was a helper for those of us who believed
in Christ, that He interceded for us when we didn’t know what to pray, but
these things were all very much head knowledge, not heart knowledge. I didn’t really understand what that
meant, that the Spirit could guide and lead me; that He could speak directly to
me. That hearing from God isn’t
crazy, its Biblical. The Holy
Spirit is ALL over the New Testament, something I never recognized before. Just about every book has some
reference to the Spirit and how it moves through us as believers. When we acknowledge His presence in us so
much of the spirit world is revealed to us. Spiritual warfare is real; I’ve fought in it in ways I never
thought possible. I’ve seen demons
come out of people, I’ve prayed against the power of witch doctors, and I’ve
seen people healed. Because of all
these things I’m forever changed.
I can’t, and I won’t go back to seeing God in my little box, we CAN talk
to Him and hear His voice and not just in reading Scripture (although we should
always check what we believe to have heard from the Lord with what His Word
says).
“And in the last days it shall be, God
declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your
daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old
men shall see dreams.” -Acts 2:17
I know from personal
experience that the Lord continues to speak personal words to people, through
others or directly to them. I have
received words and visions, not only for myself but for my teammates as well. I’ve had those visions and prophesies come to pass, I’ve seen the words we have spoken over each other have a profound impact on our lives and the lives of other people we have encountered. I don’t want to leave this Race and stop pursuing every aspect of God that I possibly can, I want to know as much of Him as possible, including hearing Him speak specific words over my life and the lives of the people around me. I
don’t say any of this to cause dissension or arguments; I just want to share my
heart as it has been changed by my knowledge and relationship with the Holy
Spirit.
“Do not quench
the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast to what
is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” -1 Thessalonians 5:14
