with a truck getting stuck in the mud in the middle of a river, and ended with
the
medical center we have been living in getting robbed….but everything inbetween has been amazing! My team and I
have enjoyed every moment here in Nicaragua, the good and the bad,
and we now know that God has put us here for a reason.
Here is just a little taste of what our week has looked
like…
One of our first adventures was digging a foundation of a house in a
small town outside of Leon. We had two shovels, two hammers, a burlap bag with rope and a couple
other tools that I don’t know the name of…and that was
it. Progress was slow but we had a great
time working and getting to know the family we were building a house for. We are hoping to return on Tuesday to see the
progress of the house and help out a bit more.
The majority of our time has been spent working with
teenagers. On Friday nights there is
a
big youth night and around 150 teenagers from the community come. I’ve never seen such a big youth
group! It is a lot of fun and definitely the
highlight of our week. The kids are great kids and so much fun to be around.
When we found out that
most of them were new Christians, my team and I decided to start a Bible study for them in the mornings. We told them
to pick a day that was good for them, but they wanted it to be more than just
once a week. So now we are meeting on
Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Our first
day we had 5 teens show up and on our second day we had 16 kids
there. It has been a blessing and a challenge!
Finally we were able to spend a day cooking with Ezmeralda,
which was my favorite day so far! Ezmeralda is our
Nicaraguan grandmother who lives next store. She insisted that we spend a day at her house
and learn to cook. We learned to make
tortillas, enchiladas, and manuelitas. It was
greasy and good!
the beach! It was beautiful and my first
time in the Pacific!
