I made it to Africa!

It only took…
A 3-hour flight from Kiev, Ukraine to Istanbul, Turkey…a 6-hour lay over in Istanbul…a 6-hour flight from Istanbul, Turkey to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania!

We arrived in Dar Es Salaam at 2:00am…waited for our visas…then headed to Morogoro, where I’m staying this month with Team Waka Waka in the Spirit (formerly Team Meizon).

To get to Morogoro, it only took…
Sleeping at a hotel in the morning, sitting by the smelly Indian Ocean, grocery shopping, making friends, learning a little Swahili, sleeping at the Jambo Inn, and then riding a 4-hour African bus to the city of Morogoro!

I’ve been here one week and the experience has been quite interesting…

Lost my iPhone (or it was stolen)

Team was robbed in the first week (computer, iPod, digital camera, one purse, three wallets)

Africans are joyful

Worship involves upbeat music and dancing

Squatty potties (I’ll let your imagination figure that one out)

Cold showers

Mosquito nets

Ugali (typical African dish made of corn flour and water)

Limited Internet

Lots of bugs

Street Evangelism

Sharing the gospel and the love of Jesus Christ

5-hour Sunday church

Dirty clothes (they will be hand washed soon)

Riding on the back of motorcycles

Boiled eggs, white bread, & bananas for breakfast…every morning!

Semi-cold Coca Cola (in glass bottles that must be returned where purchased)

30 people crammed into a mini-bus

10,000 schilling bills

Many people who speak English (surprisingly)

This is all I have experienced so far! There will be more to come: pictures, miraculous stories, and more from my heart. Until then…I’ll be in Africa so please pray for me, team Waka Waka in the Spirit, and D squad.

God Bless! 😀
