Teen Camp…Monday night…first service…
The theme this year is "Chasing Cool" and the speaker is Scott Sherwood. Last night he read from Matthew 1 – the genealogy and birth of Jesus Christ. Why you ask? Well…
King of Kings?
As far as kings go, Jesus would not have been considered a King back in the day. His lineage is full of "losers"…prostitutes, murderers, adulterers, etc. He was born to an unwed virgin in a manger and shepherds sang his praises. Although He was called the "King of Jews", he lived a common life, hung out with unpopular people, and died in the most humiliating way…basically he was born a "loser", lived as a "loser", and died a "loser".
Great News!
After learning about Jesus' life, you see that he is a King for "losers"! Now to be honest, loser is not one of my favorite words, but man…when I think of how Jesus himself was a considered loser in his society and not put on a pedestal, it makes me rethink the word. I am now proud to call myself "A Loser for Christ"! It doesn't matter what I wear, how I fix my hair, who my friends are, or where I shop…what matters is that I have a Savior who loves me even when I fall, when I mess up, or when I'm "uncool".
Are you willing to be a "Loser" for Christ? Are you willing to also stop chasing the "cool" stuff of this world and start chasing after the One who loves the losers?
