The Absence of Fear

Fear has no place in our lives. The fear of change, fear of failure or the fear of people knowing who we really are inside. I heard a great quote yesterday at training camp here in the Dominican Republic saying “If how it looks on the outside matters, than how things really are never gets dealt with“. I thought to myself, how true that our fear often stop us from truly being free, whether fear of rejection, fear of losing control or even fear of being all that God made me to be.

I have been dealing with my fears for years now, fear of heights (I reply….let me go high), fear of change (Lord…send me around the world) and fear of failure (saying yes to whatever God wants me to do even if it takes time and Edison’s 10,000 attempts to create a light source).

Yet, I find that fears always come that challenge my freedom in Christ. The past few nights, a guy posing as a gardener has been trying to break into the house the girls are staying, to steal valuable items (while Dave and I camp outside the house and can hear everything going on). I found the first few nights to be restless in sleep due to fear of danger but then last night, God gave me peace and calm which reminded me of Jesus in the storm. He said in essence what are you afraid of, for I am near. That night, the guy never came and I slept like a baby in His perfect rest. It is time to stand up to fear in His power and perfect love.

He is here to help me conquer each one of my fears one day at a time. I am learning to walk in freedom. Health issues have plagued me ever since coming back from China and the tendency is to worry, but last night, my teammate was healed of her health issues and it reminded me again that God is good, never gives us more than we can handle and that He calls us to walk in freedom no matter what the present circumstances may be. Amen!
