After two challenging months in the Caribbean (yes, it was not all beach resorts but we did manage to make it to one!), I am back in Asia…a land of such beauty in contrast with immense spiritual darkness.  I am blessed to be working with university students again similar to my time in China. My skills as a teacher are being used on a daily basis to create lesson plans in order to teach English and generate conversations that lead to deeper truths.

Last night, we had a big dinner party inviting all of our English students to play games and share a traditional Khmer (Cambodian) meal with us.  I was privileged to invite a student to church over a game of Settlers—and I began to ask myself, does life get any better than this?! It was his first time hearing about this Jesus that brought me half way across the world. He is interested in learning more!

Here in Cambodia, only 3% of the population is Christian. What an honor to speak such truth and life in such a dark place! They have had years of suffering under a ruthless communist government in the 70’s and are now trying to create emergent leaders like those seen in Korea, China, Japan and of course, the USA. They are eager for my input, help and advice, and I am here this month to encourage them forward in their dreams (as well as to give them a bigger vision in life).

I am working at an English Center where the Korean founder shared his vision with the group yesterday—one that goes beyond simply benefiting ourselves—that is a vision he says that is worth seeking. It made me think about America, and how many people live busy, mundane lives without a greater vision. It reminded me how much we all need a vision, not just the Cambodians, or the Koreans, but us Americans too.  This year is all about helping me gain a greater vision for the world. I now can say I have a vision for adoption after spending one month with orphans in Haiti, a vision for sharing the gospel with my neighbors after a month of door to door evangelism in the Dominican Republic, and here in Cambodia, a vision for training the youth to be future leaders.   I leave you with this, what is your vision in life lately?
