We have reached our first destination!! It’s been about 4 days since we arrived, and it is absolutely amazing. So far the best description I can come up with for Guatemala is “colorful”. Everything here is so vibrant… the architecture, the landscape, the culture, the people, the food… It’s absolutely amazing.
It’s the rainy season here, which means it downpours every day for about 2 or 3 hours, then clears up. The first day we arrived in Guatemala City during one of the afternoon storms which made our landing quite terrifying, in my eyes…We met our leaders and the rest of the crew in a town called Antigua. Since then we’ve been hiking, touring the city, tasting the local food and spending time with the “L Squad”, preparing for the weeks of hard work ahead. We hiked up an active volcano called Pacaya, saw some lava, and were lucky enough to dodge the rain and see some amazing views as we hiked.
We have also spent a lot of time in prayer and fellowship as we prepare to head off to our different destinations. Although we are only 4 days into this trip some amazing changes have already taken place within our group, and most definitely in my heart. If this much has happened in just the past couple of days I can’t even imagine what God has in store for us over the next 11 months… but one day at a time ;).
Tomorrow our team is joining with team Jubilee and venturing out of the city for 3 weeks to a tiny village called La Tama. It is very primitave from what I hear, but I have no worries. We will be helping a pastor in the community build a church for 300 people, and they have already assured us they will provide all of our meals and water for the time we are staying there. We’ll be sleeping in our tents, and most likely be bathing in a lake or river… and I couldn’t be more excited! 🙂 So most likely you will hear from me again in about 3 weeks!
Thank you all for your love and support, I miss you and love you all!
P.S. I am having trouble uploading pics on my blog so check out facebook to see them!
