Who would have thought that God would use a World Race Training Camp birthday to show me my value, worth, and that I needed to stop settling. Certainly not this girl. But, He did just that!
As my birthday approached towards the end of training camp I had very limited expectations for how it would be celebrated or acknowledged (I know, I know when the World Race is concerned my expectations should have been nonexistent). I figured I’d mention it to one or two people, and maybe someone might say “Hey you, H Squad girl, it’s your birthday, right? Oh well, happy birthday.” Or maybe someone would actually sing me happy birthday. I did not anticipate anything special. I basically imagined my birthday looking something like this
In reality, it was more like this
As my squad mates and I crammed into some pretty tight quarters, the evening of May 24th became a bit exhausting. Some of us were laughing (much to the chagrin of others), some of us were a bit cranky (it had been a very long week!), and we were all tired. So when watches started beeping to signal that May 25th had arrived, I wondered if anyone would remember that my birthday had just begun.
In the silence one of my precious H Squad brothers announced to the squad that it was my birthday (yay!)! So the entire squad launched into a round of “Happy Birthday to You”
Later that morning, exercise involved learning to wobble and was followed by a very special birthday song sung by the one and only Lo.
^^^^That’s Lo ^^^^
Throughout the day I was greeted with “Happy Birthday” and smiles.
Dinner rolled around and I was rewarded once again with a birthday serenade. This time it involved all of the guys of H Squad.

After dinner H Squad – aka District H, aka Blue Team, aka Best Squad Ever – dominated the other two squads in squad wars and came up with a W!
As a reward for our hardwork…we got ICE CREAM!!!! As if dessert was not enough, two more precious H Squad brothers provided the best ingredient to one of my favorite desserts…Coke Floats!
As I ended the day sleeping under the stars with my new family close by, several of my now close friends gave me a birthday blessing by sharing something they loved about me. It was so heart-warming.
I certainly did not expect to have the best birthday ever at training camp, but I did. I have never felt as loved, cherished, and valued as I did on that day. God used my precious H Squad to bless me beyond measure, and for that I am thankful.
