Before I continue, let me say that I have spent the past three and a half years teaching at an international school in Morocco, and “Here is Me!” is one of my favorite ESL phrases I have heard from the kids here 🙂 Now, here’s a little about me…
I am a Hoosier at heart, having grown up in Indiana. I love summers on the lake and spending time with family and friends whenever I can. I like playing basketball and volleyball, and watching IU sports (even if their basketball team is a bit of a mess this year). I’m also a passionate teacher, reader and traveler!
When I was a student at Hope College, God really brought a passion for missions to my heart. I spent two spring breaks on service trips: one to East Palo Alto, working with inner city kids, and another to a small village in Guatemala where we were helping build a school. After spending only a week in Guatemala and having to leave, I knew that I could have stayed much longer, which I think is really when my heart was first stirred for working and living overseas.
During my senior year at Hope I applied for and was offered a teaching job in Casablanca, Morocco. Who would have thought that three and a half years later I would still be here! It has been amazing to see how, moving to a Muslim country, God has moved in my life and strengthened my faith over the past few years. I have met so many amazing people and great friends, spent Sundays worshiping with people from all over the world, singing Sub-Saharan African praise songs, and got to teach some pretty awesome kids each week at school.
One of the passions God has placed in my life is working with kids. I had some great experiences working at camps and student teaching in Michigan, and I am so thankful for my first four years of teaching here in Morocco. As difficult as it’s going to be to leave this place, the friends I’ve made and these kids, I am so excited to see what God has in store for my time on the World Race.
