When I signed up for the World Race it felt like a year away (okay- it pretty much was), and now it’s hard to believe that it’s already the end of January! Time is flying by and I am working hard to stay focused on school and what God has for me to do here in Morocco while I am here, but as the time gets closer, I am beginning to spend more time thinking about what I need to do to prepare for next year.
One thing that I get to begin working on is fundraising. I am blessed to have an amazing church family both here in Morocco and home in Indiana. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with my pastor here about fundraising and he gave me many great suggestions. One thing he mentioned was that he asks people who raise support if fundraising is fun for them, because it should be! While this often isn’t the first thought that comes across most people’s minds when they think of raising money for missions, it brings a unique and helpful perspective and attitude to the opportunity for partnership in fundraising.
Even though I haven’t been fundraising for long, it has been amazing already to see the support that has come in! Shortly after Christmas vacation I was walking to school one morning, just not looking forward to what sometimes feels like a long stretch that we have left here! I was a bit down that day, and in to my classroom walks a teacher with a donation for my trip. It was actually the first donation that I received and it was just amazing to see how God showed up right when I needed it. Almost as if He was telling me, “Lindsay, you have six months left in Morocco, friendships and partnerships to form here, and you can still be a light in this country while you are here.”
I look forward to connecting more with others when I am back in the States this summer, as I would love to share more about how God led me to this adventure; both how He has moved in my life since I’ve been in Morocco as well as the calling He has placed on my heart to go out into the world and serve others in need next year. However, until I can see everyone in person, there are a few ways that you can help. The first and foremost is prayer; prayer that I am able to be an effective and passion driven teacher in the months that I have left here, that I would impact the lives of my students in positive ways and that my life would serve as a light in this country (even on days when my patience wears thin). And then also, prayer that my fundraising needs would be met. I need to have 3000 dollars in my account before I even get back to the States on June 19th.
As a way to meet this need, if you feel led to give, my roommate Emily (who is also doing the World Race next year) and I are having a friendly contest on Facebook 🙂 We have two charts hanging in our living room, one for each of us, with boxes from 1-100. Whichever of us gets the chart filled out first will be the star of a lip sync video (filmed around Morocco) that you will get to enjoy! How does this work? You can donate any amount- $1 to $100 or combine multiple squares for a different amount by clicking on the “support me” tab. Then, if you could message me on Facebook or through email the number square you want, I will cross the squares off the chart and update with a picture weekly of my progress. Please let me know if you have any questions- and so the game begins!
