Dear future Lilly,
Remember why you said yes to the Lord. Remember the enthusiasm in Nepal when you realized you felt called to the world race. Remember training camp, when you heard from God and you felt freedom. Remember why you said yes.
You said yes because this isn’t your life to live. This isn’t a life meant for comfort and selfishness. This is a life meant for discomfort and for growing pains… However, in all it’s hardships and struggles, life is a beautiful picture of God. The love we share is a small glimpse of God’s adoration. In this sacrifice and the many more to come, you are partnering with God on His mission! He has a vision for this broken and sinful world, and that is for His kingdom to come down, for the rocks to sing praises, and for everyone to know that he is God.
So future self, whether you are in Swaziland, Nepal, India, Guatemala or home in the states. Remember that God chose you and continues to choose you. You have a calling and an obligation to obey. So when you are feeling like this is pointless and your exhausted, know that God (yea, that amazing dude that created everything and everyone) has given you EVERY single thing you need to succeed generously. He will provide the rest, he will provide the courage, He will provide the comfort, love, and peace. He is EVERYTHING you need. He will never let you down! All you have to do is ask and receive.
There WILL be cost. You will mess up. You will be broken continuously. But don’t let these issues hold you back. Don’t let your fear or sadness of what you’ve left behind hinder you from truly experiencing this next year of your life. This is a once in a lifetime experience, but walking out your faith is a lifetime commitment. Don’t grow weary in doing good or being obedient.
It’s not gonna be easy. You’re going to want to give up. Don’t rely on others’ to encourage you. Don’t try to be strong on your own. Instead run to God. Lean into him. Let Him pour into you and give you everything you need.
Take deep breathes. Trust God. Let go. Be still
