…about being on an all girls team.

As many of you probably already know, I’ve gained a lot of wisdom in these past few months. (haha – totally kidding!) Team changes are coming up, and I’m feeling very anxious because I have grown to love my all girls team. I can’t imagine what my race is going to be like if a single one of them isn’t with me. I wanted to impart some of the "wisdom" I’ve acquired from living with them.

Things that being on all girls team has taught me:

  • Tears happen all the time, sometimes for no reason.
  • It is useful to know the pronunciation of the word “nun” in all languages.
  • After growing up sharing a bathroom with my brother, I thought I was prepared to share a bathroom with girls. Not true. Girls can be gross.
  • Apparently shaving isn't a standard practice for everyone.
  • Make-up virgins do exist.
  • It’s true. Chocolate heals all headaches, stomachaches, and bad days.
  • Hugs are the best form of communication.
  • "Jesus" is the failsafe answer when asked “Are you married?”
  • “How are you?” is an irrelevant question. When you eat, sleep, work, and hang out with 4 other girls 24/7, they already know.
  • Lifting cinder blocks for 8 hours = better than the gym.
  • After working 8am-11pm Haiti construction
  • The definition of “Spa” is relative; Mixing and pouring concrete is simply an exfoliant. Mud masks happen sometimes whether you ask for it or not.
  • Stereotypical girls team is catty and girls talk behind each other’s backs. Not true – we just say it to each other’s faces. =)
  • Most importantly, I've learned what real community really is, how to communicate, love, and be loved.
