Hello from Haiti! Sorry there won’t be any videos this month, our internet situation is not so good. I will try to post the remaining videos from the DR and from this month when we leave for Romania at the beginning of March.
I want to give you updates on our actual ministry, and I’ll get to that, but first I want to give you an update on my heart. God has been working in me so much since I left to come on this thing; I’ve learned so much.
I’ve mostly been struck with what it means to live and think beyond myself; what it looks like to actually prefer others (my family, my friends, my squadmates, everyone) over myself. Have you ever seen the acronym “J-O-Y”- Jesus, Others, You? Maybe it’s cliché, but it is truly the order my priorities should be in. If I am seeking Christ above all else, then putting others before myself, growth is inevitable. I have also been working on gentleness and the importance of having a gentle response to everyone. You see, I am an example of Christ. So God’s glory is at stake in my response, with non-Christians AND Christians. I don’t think that ever really sunk in for me before, so I am keeping that at the forefront of my mind. God is softening my heart and teaching me more and more each day. I just realized how long this could get if I detailed every single thing God’s taught me so far, so I’ll spread this out between blogs. 😉
As far as ministry goes, we’re in Grand-Goave, working with Mission of Hope International. I am with my entire squad this month (45 people) and we’re tenting on a beach here. I love being around all of them! They pour into me so much. MOH has many areas we can get involved in. Right now, we’re mostly working with construction, although we’re starting an English club on Tuesday to help some of the older kids.
I still can’t get used to this new life and how blessed I am. Thank you all SO much for your love, prayers and support. I will be updating you as the month progresses. Please continue to pray for my squad and for the people of Haiti this month. I also am not yet fully funded, so please pray for my funds as well. I am so incredibly thankful to those who have supported me so far. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
