“God told Abram: ‘Leave your country, your family, and your father’s home for a land that I will show you. I’ll make you a great nation and bless you. I’ll make you famous; you’ll be a blessing…so Abram left just as God said.”
Genesis 12:1-2,4
God says “Go.” And when He does, He doesn’t call us to do it half heartedly. He tells us to go with everything we have. And when we go, it’s scary, it’s new, it’s unknown. But we are called to go and to do.
Abraham was called to go. To leave everything he knew with everything he had and go somewhere new and unknown. We know this wasn’t an easy task for Abraham. He has ups and downs. He has failures. He has doubts. But God knows. God knows where he is leading Him. He knows the unknown. He knows the mystery. He knows the path. At the end, Abraham is blessed beyond what he could ever understand and see on his own.
God calls us all. Our complete self. Everything we can give. All our talents, uniqueness, wisdom; completely called to unique, different, and new tasks. For some “new” is walking three houses down and ministering to your neighbor that just moved in. For some it’s getting involved in a new ministry at church. For some it’s going to church. God is always calling us to something new. A new way to trust him.
Last year around this time God called me to leave my home in Michigan and work at a camp in Cleveland, Georgia. Leaving the city to live in the middle of nowhere. Leaving friends to live with strangers (now family
). To leave a ministry I loved to work at another one completely different. It was new and it was scary. But I have a Father who knows me, knows my path and knew this new thing was exactly where I needed to be to serve Him in the best possible way.
A year later and there is another “New.” In October I will be going to Zambia, Malaysia, and India for three months each on a missions trip with Adventures in Missions. There will be so many new ways to serve, new ways to show love and new people to give that love too. My team and I will have the opportunity to show these people Jesus. We will be doing this through different types of ministry work. Some will be more focused on teaching and discipleship and some will be more focused on practical, physical needs. We will be able to work with orphanages, sex trafficking ministries, farming ministries, and many others to show these people the love of the amazing Savior and Father we have. To show them the hope they can have. The relationship they can have with the one who loves us beyond measure.
The Holy Spirit is leading me and leading others and we’re trusting the Holy Spirit to work and support us through you. We need giving and we need prayers. We need the people of Christ to rise up with us and go through this journey with us.
