So I am sitting here on my nice comfy bed at a YWAM base in Matamata, New Zealand, which is about 2 hours south of Auckland. Yes, you read correctly, somehow I ended up scoring a bed here, which I was not expecting! We also have hot showers and electricity. We are definitely being spoiled, but it won’t last for long, I’m sure. It never does on The World Race, or so I’ve heard!
We arrived at about 5:00 this morning after spending 12 hours on a gigantic plane, which I had much difficulty sleeping on, unfortunately. But I am so happy to get this journey started after almost a year of anticipation.
From what I’ve seen so far, New Zealand is a remarkably picturesque country, with towering, majestic mountains and lots of unique greenery. Where we are staying is actually the area where Lord of the Rings was filmed. It looks more like a painting than reality, which reminds me of God’s amazing artistry. It is sunny and warm, and wonderful. I’ve already fallen in love with this place, and my team may just have to drag me out of here at the end of the month!
Today has mostly been a day of relaxation and adjustment to the time difference. On Friday, we will be finding out what our exact ministry locations will be, and will head out this Saturday to those destinations. Thank you all for your prayers! I miss everyone already, but I know God has some crazy adventures in store for these 11 months, and I can’t wait to find out what’s in store!
P.S. Pictures to come soon!
