This month the
girls from my team (Team Post Office) joined with the lovely ladies of Team
Current for ministry, forming one large team we now affectionately refer to as
Team “Again for the First Time,” which is sort of an inside joke amongst us. We worked with a local pastor and his
family, teaching English in the community, attending weekly cell groups, and
preaching at his church. Now, at
first, I have to admit that I was a little nervous about the idea of spending a
whole month with nine other women.
I envisioned lots of crying, maybe some bickering, and other drama, as
well. Don’t get me wrong, I love
my girlfriends, but I don’t think it’s any secret that sometimes there is such a thing as too much estrogen in
one confined space. So, needless
to say, I was picturing the worst.
BUT I was very pleasantly surprised! I actually loved having girls-only time. Here are a few reasons why being on an
all-girls team is pretty awesome:
1. We could watch chick-flicks whenever we
wanted! No consulting the guys
first. So…we ended up watching
several classics, including 27 Dresses and The Notebook.
2. We had many long rides in the back of a
pick-up truck throughout the month.
How did we entertain ourselves?
We had i-Pod sing-along’s, that’s how! But we sang songs that most guys would plug their ears
to. Our favorite artists included:
Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry.
3. We ate of ice cream! We found an amazing ice-cream joint
called Swenson’s that we frequented at least once a week. Hot fudge, whipped cream, and
chocolate-covered cherries, oh my!

4. We could sleep in whatever we
wanted to. Here in Thailand it
gets pretty hot, so we were grateful not to have any guys around at night!
5. We could have uncensored girly conversations
about all the usual stuff: boys, hair, boys, makeup, boys, fashion, boys, planning each other’s weddings, boys, food,
and did I mention boys?
6. When we told each other our testimonies, we
didn’t have to leave any information out.
We could give details that we wouldn’t normally share with the guys.
7. We had a girls’ night out (with Pastor and
his family). We got all dolled-up
in our spiffiest World Race gear, and went out for a nice dinner. And then had ice cream afterwards, of
course. J
8. We worshipped together, we prayed together,
and we encouraged one another. We had
deep convos and shared countless jokes.
In the end, we made some really cool memories!
So, as you can see,
we had lots of fun this month! But
all silliness aside, I absolutely loved spending this month with nine
incredibly strong and fearless women of God. To Katie Cartwright, Kathryn Gironimi, Glenalyn Hunt, Amy
Book, Nicole Juhasz, Cat Pollock, Kristi Kaeli, Lindsey Eaton, and Megan Rouse:
I love you all and you will forever be my sisters! Thanks for a great month! J
