Hebrews 11: 13&16.

“All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth…

Instead, they were longing for a better country— a heavenly one.“

The Reason Behind the Design:

Hebrews was written to show people that Jesus is from God and that He completed the ultimate sacrifice which allowed Old Testament customs to cease, and offers constant interaction between us and God, no priest or curtain needed. Chapter 11 recalls times when Followers of God had faith and hope in His promises of Jesus’ coming, even though they died before the prophecy was completed, they remained steadfast in God’s timing and promises of a better city with a sure foundation, that city being the Kingdom of heaven. This promise of a better city encouraged Followers to devote themselves fully to God’s bliss because the realization began to set in that this earth is not our home! Friends, we are exiles, aliens, strangers on this foreign land; longing for this heavenly home, for this united diversity that is to come!

What a beautiful picture and answer to why we feel out of place, why we feel we do not belong, why that void stays unquenched, and why our tactics of making a future on this earth don’t function correctly.
It is because the remedy is not here in this land, it is because God is the creator and architect of a better city, the Kingdom; where all the echoes of heaven that show up in pockets on earth become united and complete, where my homeland truly resides, in the presence of the Breath of Life.

I pray that this shirt acts as an avenue for conversations about our homeland. I ask that God will use this simple cloth as an encouragement of His promises, and that more than anything it will be a reminder to leverage our actions, words, and relationships to benefit this city that is to come.

I am learning, and constantly failing, but being pursued by grace, to look past myself, past my agenda and goals, so that by God’s blessing and grace I may constantly live in the reality that I am a foreigner, leveraging a life for the city that is to come.
