I’m currently laying on a balcony in Cambodia, listening to the strums of my fellow squad mates guitar flow faintly through the village streets. I live in a home with 48 other people. It’s full of laughter and love as people and village kids come in and out of the doors. We crowd around the fans as we come in sweaty from a day full of ministry. The house is lively and I feel so at home with people who were strangers a couples of weeks ago.
We have been waking up to the songs of Cambodian people that echo through out the city. They have been singing in honor of the holiday pchum ben. It is a holiday where the Cambodian people believe their ancestors from hell come back to receive offerings. The living ones travel back to their home land to give these gifts, to prevent being cursed.
Since most people are traveling back to their home lands, school has been out, so I have not been able to teach and start my ministry this week. I have been doing other jobs to fill my time and minister to the people in other ways. Life here is slow pace, which has been different than my life back at home.
Im so used to scheduled living it’s actually been challenging adjusting to a calmer way of life. The Lord is teaching me many things in the stillness of the day, and I’m growing in ways I never thought I could. I’ll be writing about spiritual growth, hopes for revival, and other more detailed entries later. I just wanted to paint a picture of what my life is like so far in this beautiful city. Thanks so much for reading, loves always -Lexi
