“Why am I going on the World Race?”

It’s a question I’ve wrestled with a number of times- to be able to explain it in my letters, to find my “elevator speech”, or to answer questions that people ask.

I’ve gone through multiple answers. Because I want to. Because I need to take a year off. Because I’m not sure if God wants me to be a TESOL teacher. Because, because, because of this and that.

I recently talked with one of our Squad leaders, Megan, who is absolutely awesome. She talked about the expectations of a World Racer, one of which is a kingdom mindset. On the Race, it is not about us. It’s about God. We are doing His work. Which got me thinking.

God has placed me in a uniquely different position to go on the Race. My dad is Swiss, and my little brothers are adopted from Japan. I’ve been able to go to both Switzerland and Japan because of this. My mama raised us to appreciate and try new things- we have dinner from places around the world. God led me to take three missions trips: one to Nicaragua, twice to Haiti. And God gave me the spiritual gift of hospitality; I like to make others feel comfortable and welcome.

So to sum it up: I have been able to travel to different countries, both wealthy and poor, and thrive in both. He’s shown me the difference in my life and the lives of others everywhere I go. And since my mom encourages us to be open to everything, I L-O-V-E trying anything new! Aka, everything the World Race entails.

On the Race, we’ll be going to three different countries, with different cultures, foods, ways of life, and people. I’m going to make mistakes, and gain new experiences from them. So I think God placed me in the World Race to be able to expand my world.

And I can’t wait!

Signing off,

a dangerous ray of sunshine.
