Child-Like Leadership
In Matthew 19:14 Jesus calls us to become like children. He tells us that those who do this will inherit the kingdom of Heaven.
Over the past few weeks, God has been teaching me that becoming a like a child means submission, and submission to the leadership set ahead of me no matter what it may look like.
These past couple of months, ledership has been set ahead of me, both within our group and within ministry, that I have not necessarily agreed with. Instead of following their leadership and submitting myself to their authority, I decided that I knew better and would figure it out on my own. In doing this I not only disrespected my leaders, but I also disrespected God.
You see, each of the people set ahead of me has God-given authority. They have been authorized, by God, to stand above me in leadership, and disrespecting their authority means disprespecting where their authority comes from.
The reason I am sharing this struggle with you all is because I feel like a lot of people struggle with this same thing, and God is calling us into bigger and better things. We need to allow ourselves to submit to God-given leadership or we will never become like childen. Even Jesus humbled and submitted himself to the authority God gave to Mary and Joseph.
In every part of our lives we need to humble and submit ourselves whether it be to our boss, leader, teacher, parent, or any other leader. God gave them authority over our lives for a specific reason. Sometimes that reason isn’t easy, sometimes God uses these people to test us or to tear down an unhealthy part of our lives. If we find ourselves rejecting the leadership set in front of us, we need to step back and ask God what we are really rejecting.
This is something I have been and will continue to work on. I would encourage each one of you, if you feel convicted, to lean into God and see where He is trying to refine you. For me, He is trying to show me humility and what it really looks like to surrender my pride.
