A little update on what I have been doing since the last blog post. We haven’t really started ministry, but we have done a few things since getting here exactly two weeks ago today. (crazy huh?)
Iyapan is a small village that we have visited and worked in. We work with children in the schools. I have loved every moment we have gotten to spend there. We have only been twice, but each time has gotten better. I have realized that the kids there really just want you to dance with them. And believe me I have danced a lot. (Almost to the point of passing out)
The past week and a half we have been taking Spanish classes. If you know me this is something that really excites me. It has been challenging, and I have really been wishing that my High School Spanish teachers had taught me more. I’m getting the hang of it though and I know by the end of the three months I will be better off than I came.
Another ministry we have been doing is working with widows. German (our Guatemalan Dad) is really passionate about Widows. Every Saturday we do a breakfast and service for them. This Friday we had a coffee and bread party for them. German likes to give me the microphone and for what reason I don’t know? I have had to step out of my comfort zone and be bold. I have played guitar, prayed, and shared with the widows. I know GOD will do great things through my team and I these next 3 months.
We also had a technology fast these last few days. It’s been so refreshing. I forget how much I truly love being away from the world. It’s been a time for growth within my team. I love them all so much. They all bring their own uniqueness to the team. It’s been so fun finding things to do without turning to a screen to provide entertainment.
This last Sunday we got to be apart of a huge movement. The village I am in is Mayan, therefore they have their own Mayan native language. They have never had a bible that was in their language. Wycliffe an organization that interprets the bible in other languages finally had one for this area in Guatemala. We got to be an intercession of the distributing process. Though we didn’t get to do much, but walk with a group handing them and pray. It’s huge for this town.
If you could be, please be in deep prayer for this dark town. It has been bound by traditional Mayan beliefs, and witchcraft for a lot of years. It’s a really big deal that we are here. We are hoping that through these next three months we will start to see change. We will be the shed the light. So pray for this village that the Lord would start to open up hearts.
Today we worked in a Wheel Chair Factory called Global Mobility. It’s an organization that fits people who can’t afford wheelchairs with wheelchairs. They ship them all over the World. I worked in the nut and bolt part putting them in Baggies. It was tedious and frustrating at the beginning because it had to weigh a certain amount or you would have to recount it. I prayed a lot, thought a lot, and thanked God a lot that I don’t have to work there daily to provide for my family. We were rewarded with homemade wood fire cooked pizza. (Favorite Homemade Guatemalan meal yet)It was an awesome experience overall.
Thank you so much for the continual support. Keep my team and In your prayers as we start our ministry
