What is love?
Is it the look on a mother’s face when she sees her baby for the first time?
Is it the look on a groom's face when he sees his bride walking down the aisle?
What about the warmth you feel when you hold a little baby who was abandoned by their mom and dad and is experiencing affection for the first time?
Is it the act of Mary washing Jesus’ feet days before He was to die?
Or is the act of a man that was fully man, and fully God, laying down His life, so that all who believe in Him will not die, but have eternal life?
Love, in one definition, is the unselfish, loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another. It's laying down yourself for another, putting your wants aside to help a fellow brother or sister.
There are 3 types of love:
1: Eros love – known as “erotic love”.
It is based on strong feelings toward another. It usually occurs in the first stages of a man-woman “romantic” relationship
2: Philos love – a love based on friendship between two people
3: Agape love – unconditional love
The later is something that God has really been pressing on my heart. Truly laying down my life for God, and for His people.
God has called us to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:17 NET)
God sent His only son to live and dwell among us, here on earth. He did this knowing full well that the day would come where Jesus would be nailed to a cross, and hung naked to die, in order to save man kind.
NOW THAT’S TRUE LOVE.
This man loved ALL, not just the ‘perfect’ or the ‘well behaved’. Jesus ate and drank with sinners, just like you and me. He healed the sick, He called out demons, He loved the widows and the orphans.
There is no greater love than that. That a man would lay his life down for a friend.
God is raising up a generation of disciples, called to love like Jesus did. Showing this dying, hurting world the unconditional love a Savior who wants nothing more than to wrap His arms around you and love you.
Jesus You are the lover of my soul, my all in all. Nothing in this world matters if we don’t have your love.
So take a deep breath, breathe in the thick, rich love of Christ Jesus.
Jesus loves you, and so do I!
