Want to know what it looks like to be a world racer? Here is your chance! I have decided to do a fun little blog about what a typical day looks like here in Nepal.
6:00am: Wake up time.
7:00am: Tea time! Fresh Chai tea and biscuits made by Auntie and Uncle. It’s a great way to warm up on these chilly Nepali mornings
7:20am: Jesus time! This is where I get into God’s word and ask what he has planned for me today. Usually this is accompanied by a little worship music.
8:00am: Group prayer time. We gather as a team to worship and thank God for who He is and to pray over our squad and ministry site.
9:00am: Breakfast. This usually consists of some sort of fried potato or potato/cauliflower mix, as well as steamed rice and tortillas.
9:45am: Kids arrive at school and line up for morning role call. They recite to Nepali National anthem as well as the Lord’s Prayer before heading to their assigned classrooms
10:00am-12:50pm: My teammates and I teach children ages 3-9. This time of year they are reviewing for their final exam, as it is the end of the Nepali calendar. We help them review in subjects like English, Math, Science, and Social Science.
Side note:: These kids are the ones that have been sent to school on scholarship as a preventative measure. They are being educated instead of being sold into the sex trade industry.
1:00pm: Kids break for lunch and us teachers get a small break. We usually take this time to rest and debrief what each of us experienced in our classrooms today.
2:00pm: Snack time. Again we are served with some sort of potato dish along with Chapati. We also get some delicious tea to drink as well.
3:00pm-3:30pm: This is the last class period of the day. The kids are all riled up at this time so we usually sing songs, or do activities outdoors in order to keep their attention while review things like body parts and plants.
4:00pm: TEAM TIME! This is the part of the day where we come together as a team and debrief our day. We take this time to build eachother up and share a few laughs from the day.
6:00pm: Dinner time! The sun has set by this time, so we have dinner by the lantern. Potatoes and tortillas it is again, but no tea this time. We spend time pouring into our host family and learning about their lives. They are so great and have such a passion for the Lord and a yurning to do His will as He has commanded them to do.
The rest of the evening is spent, usually as an entire team, hanging out in our room (in our tents because the mosquitos are terrible) listening to music, dancing, sharing funny stories, watching movies, whatever we decide to do on that particular night.
Nepal is quickly becoming one of my favorite countries here on the race. Working with New Light Nepal and aiding in educating children is so wonderful. The Nepali people are beautiful and so hungry for a heavenly kind of love. I absolutely love working at Haripur Presasha Academy and getting to partner with ‘uncle’ and the ministry he has here. The scenery is beautiful, filled with sugar cane fields and wild flowers.
This month has been the breath of fresh air I have been gasping for. This country is engulfed in the riches of the glory of God.
“Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord forever” Psalm 150:6
