MERRY CHRISTMAS DEAR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. We sang one of my favorite songs at last night’s Christmas Eve service: O Holy Night. Some of the words (in bold below) really struck a chord with me as I stood singing them. The words reminded me of why I am preparing for my 11 month journey around the world next year. The song says we are to:

               Love one another

                        Seek love and peace

                                Break the chains of oppression

These are the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are not complicated. They are simple. They are universal. These teachings should stretch out across every nation around the world. And as simple as they seem, they are also not easy. These commandments do not come without effort. Loving others, seeking peace, and breaking the chains of oppression takes effort on our parts. But we are called to do it, home or abroad. The underlying message of Christmas songs is rather simple. These songs are such great reminders of what God did for us and how we should live our lives. Love, Love, Love. It’s so simple

O Holy Night

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
