There's a book called Freedom of the Hills that is THE guide for mountaineers and climbers. That is truly what I feel when I'm in the mountains…there's something freeing about being on a ridgeline or on a peak. We arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal earlier this week. Apologies for not posting a blog about our time in Tanzania last month. Anyway, I just wanted to post some photos for those back home. We will be doing some prayer walks this month. I'm not sure what else the month will hold…it's been one day at a time so far. Greetings and love from Nepal….
Views of the rice fields near our house in the 'suburbs' of Kathmandu.
Tea time. Sebastian ("Subash") is our host's son. Here, he's taking us into the heart of the city. Air quality isn't that great in the city so a lot of people wear masks.
For our first day of ministry, we did a prayer walk near our house We visited a buddist monastery. Our contact, Meng, is a trekking guide in the mountains. He supports his family fully through this. Lucky me, I've enjoyed spending some time with him swapping hiking stories and photos of my treks in Alaska and hearing about his treks here in Nepal.
Photos from our prayer walk.
Photos from our prayer walk. There are a lot of shrines and places for offering, like the ones shown in the photo in front of the door.
Glad to see there is vegetarian ice cream here?! I love catching people staring at us and greeting them with "namaste"… they usually smile back after they realized I caught them staring at us.
Mountain and trail life. Sometimes it's hard work!
I'm cooking fish curry here with Meng and his wife. Electricity is sporadic sometimes so I was cooking by headlamp for awhile. They serve delicious meals for us! The other photo was taken in the heart of Thamel, the tourist spot for Kathmandu.
Home sweet home for the month from the roof. I slept inside for the first few nights but I moved to the roof. Here's the view.
