All of E squad is joined together in Albania to do ministry in August. That is to say, there are 49 passionate young people ready to bless Light Force Ministry in Lezhe, Albania. Working as a squad has been exhilarating, from worship sessions every night to pulling weeds out of gardens even to a Harry Potter movie marathon, having my squad with me has been such a treasure.
Our ministry this month is assisting with a camp facility. Everyone on the squad has different jobs for when there are camps present. Splitting up camp responsibilities between so many volunteers, who want to engage with Albanians, when there is such a limited number of actual Albanians, can be frustrating.
Thus this month, I have been watching a gate. I sit at the front gate of Light Force International waiting for people to come and go. It is a bland job and it lacks luster. It requires little skill and even less interactions with Albanians. Besides a “Mirëmëngjes!” in the morning and “Mirëmbrëma!” in the evening, my conversations with my ministry are limited.
However, at times and I am completely enamored by the way God works. My job guarding the gate, often allows me to study the bible for several hours a day. I get to greet people as they arrive at the camp, and wave goodbye to them as they leave. God has been teaching me about the glory of small acts of service. More so, God has also showed me the blessing that I can be to our ministry and our host by gladly approaching a simple and dull job.
While it does not sound as exciting as working in archery or handling the camp logistics even, I know that I am serving God, my squadmates, my community, and my ministry host, George, by doing my job well, which is to say with a joyful heart.
