This month I was living in the middle of the Kalahari Desert, in a small village called Werda (pronounced Verda). Werda is the kind of place that you have never heard of, and it is not significant enough to warrant a dot on the map. To someone from the United States, it could be described as barren, desolate, or abandoned. The population is scarce. Made up mostly of wizened elders and barely weaned children. The young adults and the teenagers are almost a thing of legend. The people of this village are out numbered by the number of goats and donkeys. It is a 4 1/2 hour round trip to go buy groceries. And not to mention the scarcity of internet.
It’s easy to assume that this village’s lack of people and notoriety translates to lack of importance. But I can honestly say that Werda has become vital to me. You see there is a war that is being fought in Werda. Don’t go to your favorite news source to try and read about it, because your search will fail. There is not a psychical war, nothing of this world. But Werda is in the midst of an all out spiritual battle.
Werda needs your help and your prayers. Please join my team and I as we pray for Werda.
Please pray for a strong community of believers. A community that builds up one another and affirms their neighbors. Pray for purity of thoughts, purity of words, and purity of deeds for the church of Werda. Pray that this church can show God’s love to this village through their actions. Let this church be loving and caring towards others and let their actions be a light that draws others into the fold. Pray that God expands His church and sustains this village. Pray against darkness. Against depression. Against loneliness. Against lust. Against idolatry. Pray for peace. For joy. For grace. For compassion. For forgiveness. For redemption. For a love that covers a multitude of sins.
Keep this little place you have never heard of and will most likely never visit in your prayers. Because it is a fighting ground for the spirit, and this town called Werda needs your prayers. Thank you.
