To love like Jesus is to love without conditions, boundaries or hesitation. To love like Jesus is to feel each other’s pain and joy; to not pass judgment and to always show compassion. To love like Jesus is to embrace each and every person as your brother or sister.

These are traits I have desired and prayed for often. I desperately want to overcome my sinful nature and love each person I have the opportunity to just as my Heavenly Father loves me.

Every person we have had the privilege of meeting here in Puerto Rico demonstrates a love like Jesus. Over these last few weeks our brothers and sisters in Christ have warmly welcomed all 20 of us into their lives. God has blessed our path with people who have prayed for us, serenaded us, fed us, hugged and kissed all of us. As the month progresses I am constantly in awe by the people we meet and their ability to show strangers like us true, uninhibited love.

We have been helping Irlanda Heights Church with renovations in their building; we have spent a lot of time peeling away old paint and updating the colors in the church. Each day we spend peeling away old paint I keep thinking that maybe God has me on this journey to peel back my old layers, clear away old fears and allow to me love others without barriers, conditions or hesitation. To feel the joy and pain of others, to show compassion, and to love just as the people here have loved us and just like Jesus did.

Everyday I will strive to love this way.
