Dios te Bendiga!

I can hardly believe we are already well into month 2 of the race!

This month we are extremely blessed to serve together as an entire squad of 47 people and to have the privilege of serving with a ministry called Hope 4 Dominican Republic.

The family who runs the ministry has planted two churches and a third church is currently in the works. The ministry is in the process of purchasing the property where we are currently staying in Lajas. The dream for this land is to one day open an orphanage, host camps and even retreats here. They have a truly beautiful vision of how they can glorify God in the place and expand the Kingdom through the Dominican Republic.

Our role this month is to assist with various areas of the ministry; each team rotates each day. One of the ministries is teaching English classes at the children’s center in Cien Fuegos and at the property in Lajas.  Our afternoon class in Lajas even has adults that come to learn. One morning when I was at  Cien Fuegos some of the kids found out my birthday was coming up so they sang Happy Birthday to me in Spanish and then created a dog pile on top of me. I was defenseless against the pile because I was laughing so hard I was crying.

Another ministry consists of two teams going out to do prayer walks; one team is in the Lajas community and the other is in Santiago. This was the first time I had ever done a prayer walk and I was unsure what to think of it. I really loved imagining God’s desires for these communities and speaking life into His vision.

Finally, we have teams on grounds that assist with labor on the property and another team is on work duty; which consists of cleaning up our community area and cooks the meals for the day.

In addition to these tasks, we also host children’s day on Saturdays at the churches. This last Saturday was our first one and we had a blast playing games, singing songs and acting out Bible stories. My team was in charge of playing 3 games and few worship songs with dances. Singing and dancing is not typically my gift but you better believe I busted some moves out on stage.

Every day we can see and feel the presence of God at work here and we see how the Lord has placed this community on the hearts of this family. I feel privileged that God has sent us here. Although it’s just the beginning of their ministry, I know God is going to do great things through their efforts.
