I can’t believe its been almost a week since we’ve arrived in Camotán, Guatemala. So far I’ve been doing construction, building a new health clinic here. Its just been hot and tiring. Fortunately this morning I was able to do something different: visit local mountain schools and distribute school supplies to various students. We visited 4 different, rural, mountain schools most of which had less than 60 students altogether and two of them had all of the students (different grades) in one classroom. Most of the students were shy when receiving their supplies.
So far we’ve been pretty lucky as far as accommodations go…we’re staying in a nice place…have bunk beds, nice, indoor bathrooms, and even a swimming pool and trampoline. But before you get the wrong idea…I did my fair share of washing dishes and cleaning the bathrooms today…and yesterday was fun…we hand washed clothes;). Its strange knowing that we’re the missionaries…here to serve yet knowing that we are living much more comfortably than those around us. Although I am definitely appreciative of what I have here…I wonder how much more we’ll be able to relate to locals when we really live like they do.
Sunday was a busy day because we went to 2 churches, one in the morning and one at night. At night we put on a skit, sang a few songs in Spanish and then 2 of my teammates shared a testimony. I translated Tiffany’s testimony, which made me nervous but it was all good. I think this coming Sunday we’re visiting a few churches as well…and Warren, one of my teammates that I’ve been working with one the construction site, will be preaching.
