Hello blog readers! Teammates, supporters, prayer warriors, future world racers and anyone else who may read my blogs in the year to come.
I can hardly believe that I’m preparing for the World Race…sometimes it still seems surreal.
My name is Phoebe Leigh Leckman and I love the Lord and I love people (or try to most of the time). I have been blessed/afflicted with wanderlust for just as about as long as I can remember..which I attribute to my parents and the normalness of international travel growing up. I was born in and lived in South Africa for eleven years, where my parents were missionaries. Looking back, I am so glad to have spent my childhood there because I have a much broader perspective of the world than I would have otherwise. And I wouldn’t know the joys of rooibos (red) tea or boerewors (looks like sausage but tastes exponentially better). My childhood experiences fostered an interest in different people and different cultures…its remarkable how much variation there is in our world.
In 1997 my family moved to Georgia where we’ve lived for over 10 years. My parents are still involved in ministry here. My dad’s idea of fun is running…I still don’t get it. My mom was very excited to hear about the worldrace. My brother, Isaac is 26, lives in Tennessee and works for Maytag. I have 2 sisters. Felicity just turned 21 and is an art major in college. Sonya is 18 and will graduate from high school a few weeks before I leave for the world race. I am 23 and I recently graduated from the University of West Georgia where I studied Anthropology and Spanish.
I currently am working part time as a receptionist for a cleaning company and I’m in this awkward stage where I’m trying to figure out what to do with my life.
