My team and I arrived at our first ministry in San Lucas on Wednesday morning by bus. Bus rides in Guatemala are intense, the driver does not slow down on turns and if you do not hold onto the seat in front of you you will find yourself in a strangers lap or in the asile until the rode is straight once again.

It has been raining every day since I have been in Guatemala causing much damage to the sourounding areas, mainly in Guatemala City! The rain, however, has not stopped us from hiking a volcano or traveling today to Antigua to get internet reception even though trees were blocking parts of the rode it was not a problem for our speedy bus driver!

Every day has been an adventure so far and I am planning on keeping it that way in the next 11 months!

More about our ministry site! The kids are simply amazing! There are about 30 kids who have come from an abusive home life and found refuge in the orphanage Rosa De Amor where we are staying for the next few weeks! Even though they have been through so much it is incredible to see them have so much joy in the midst of their struggles.

The kids are so patient with me in the little spanish I speak and also in teaching my how to make tortillas. I must have dropped five tortillas and every time I thought I made a decent tortilla I asked Aura, "bien, no?" She would respond, "no!" Haha despite my failure in tortilla making we had a good laugh at my attempts. Lesbia would make a perfect tortilla and she would hand it to me to show it to Aura so that I could take credit for it. Bless her little heart!

It has been so much fun learning how to make tortillas and to improve on my spanish. "Poco y poco", our ministry contact Pat says to encourage us in improving in our spanish skills.

It has only been five days and I am already attached to these little ones! My favorite part of the day is at night when we sing worship together. Dave, our leader has a guitar and we sang Mumford and Sons songs with them as well as Coldplay, Taylor Swift, y other popular American songs. It has been so much fun.

Fin para ahora pues…..
