Matthew 5:3-10
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the humble, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.”
The Beauty in Between
Tell me, what do you see?
Tell me what you see when you walk through the village streets. Do you notice all the eyes glaring at you? You may be too distracted with all the commotion of people yelling “forengie!” to even look into the eyes of the child standing right before you.
It’s easy to pay attention to the horrid view that smacks you in the face as you try to avert your eyes from witnessing these events. You may even be wishing not to be here because it seems like too much for you to handle.
In this drawn out world that we’ve been taught to see as black and white, be still and look at the beauty in between the lines…
Tell me, what do you see now?…Do you notice the cream colored butterfly that floats above the tall yellow grass?…Do you feel the warm breeze brush against your face in the radiant sun?…Do you hear the pure innocent laughter coming from the children across the street?
Well, I’ll show you something even more beautiful.
Look over there. See that man by the shack? You may see old tattered clothes, cheap old shoes falling apart, and the abundance of wrinkles that frame his face. Be still…
I tell you, there’s a story within those eyes. I encourage you, look again into the window of the soul.
Now what do you see? Do you see this man the way I see him? Can you see the joy and peace that resides in his soul? Do you see the light that shines through the darkness inside of this man?
You see, this world is broken and there are many tragic things, but look at the beauty in between…for its goodness easily out-weighs the bad. So, when the shattered mirror, that the world has handed to us since we were born, demands for all your attention to be focused on it. Be still and look again….
Do you see me?
Questions:
What is something that has happened in your life that the world makes you look at through a broken mirror?
Now, applying Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” to that situation. Take the time to be still and meditate on this and ask God where it is that you see him?
Also happy mother’s day mom, i love you so much and ill see you in less than a month!
